TEAM SAFETYWORKS COMPLETES THE SCUMRUN 2013

TEAM SAFETYWORKS have returned jubilant after participating in the Scumrun 2013, which is the famous 4 day charity rally across Europe, as seen on Sky TV.

The Scumrun is the biggest and original banger rally, with over 100 vehicles departing from the UK to mystery destinations around Europe. The event has raised over £380,000 since 2006.

To enter a team for the Scumrun, an ‘old banger’ needs to be purchased for no more than £500, which can then be modified in readiness for the rally. The route takes the teams across Europe, but each destination is not known until the start of each new day, with several thousand miles being covered over the four days.

For 2013, the Scumrun charity is WellChild, which helps sick children and their families throughout the UK as they deal with the consequences of serious illness and complex conditions. Their mission is to reach as many children and young people as they can, year after year. WellChildfocus on three key areas – care, support and research – and their involvement in so many aspects of children’s health puts them in a unique position.

Commenting after the event, Marco Norman, Managing Director of SAFETYWORKS & Solutions said, “So far we have raised in excess of£1900.00, which is absolutely marvellous, and we have had several pledges from more people. I am hoping that once all the cheques have rolled in we will hit in excess of £2500, which will put us at the top of the fund raisers”.

SAFETYWORKS & SOLUTIONS PROVIDE ALL THE ANSWERS AT UNIVERSITY

Having successfully supplied numerous roof access systems to many locations within the education sector, SAFETYWORKS & Solutionswere delighted to provide a comprehensive roof safety solution for installation at The University of Hertfordshire.

The University of Hertfordshire is the UK’s leading business-facing University and one of the region’s largest employers with over 2,700 staff and a turnover of more than £235 million. With a student community of over 24,500 including more than 2,000 international students from over eighty five different countries, the University has a global network of over 165,000 alumni.

The project involved upgrading the roof access and safety systems on the McLaughlin Building. Following a comprehensive site assessment of the existing systems, SAFETYWORKS & Solutions submitted a report and plan of recommendation for the supply of a new, improved system that would enable operatives to undertake maintenance tasks at height safely and securely.

For edge protection and easy movement around the roof areas, 242 l/m of Easyguard free standing handrails were installed. Installation is rapid due to the easily assembled design, with the base plates fitted with bonded ribbed rubber mats, including an EPDM foam infill which helps to reduce heat transference to the roof membrane, which in turn assists to minimise membrane degradation. Galvanised to BS/EN 1461, Easyguard has been proven throughout a variety of locations including hospitals, schools, sports stadia, housing associations, and industrial buildings to be highly durable, and cost efficient.

To ensure safe roof access to the tank room, SAFETYWORKS & Solutions manufactured and installed a 4m Free Standing Access Ladder.

In addition, SAFETYWORKS managed on-site logistics to ensure the smooth completion of this installation, including provision of cranes, the delivery to site of 12 tonnes of ballast, and the placement of 500 PV panels and stands on behalf of the PV installation company.

Commenting on the project, Marco Norman, Managing Director of SAFETYWORKS & Solutions said, “We have an extensive portfolio of successful installations within the education sector, and were delighted to utilise our experience and understanding of this environment, and its requirements to supply a cost effective, fast track roofing system to Hertfordshire University”.

SAFETYWORKS EASYGUARD HANDRAIL SYSTEM IS ALL FIRED UP!

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions, one of the UK’s leading ‘safety at height specialists’, were pleased to provide their roof safety products to the new E.ON gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) station, on the Isle of Grain in Kent.

The £500m power station required 1580 linear metres of Easyguard permanent freestanding handrail, which were installed to ensure safe access around the roof perimeters of various buildings on the site. SAFETYWORKS specifically designed the system to include an increased angle on the post in order to counter the angle of the roof. Due to the geographical location of the plant, the handrails were produced as extra heavy duty versions, in order to withstand the high winds expected on the roof areas. The system was galvanized to BS/EN 1461, with the base plates fitted with a unique anti-slip device to prevent the system from sliding down the roof.

The next phase of the project will see SAFETYWORKS install their heavy duty Flexideck Walkway System and new Access Ladders.

Commenting on the project, Marco Norman, Managing Director of SAFETYWORKS & Solutions said, “As both a manufacturer and installer of high performance safety systems, we are able to offer our clients with a truly bespoke service by producing systems which are ideal for many different applications. This latest project was one such example where we specifically designed the products to meet the individual needs of the location.

E.ON’s new 1,275MW gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) station will produce enough electricity to supply around a million homes and will also supply 340MW of heat energy to the National Grid LNG terminal. The station has three combined-cycle units that burn natural gas and supply waste heat in the form of hot water to the nearby liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal. This makes Grain one of the world’s largest CHP plants, and will take its overall efficiency to an expected 72%.

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions Walk Ways are ‘MILES AHEAD’

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions are celebrating after having a bumper month in May, delivering in to their ‘supply only’ and contract clients in excess of one mile of walk ways!

One such project was on behalf of a food processing site in London, where SAFETYWORKS were able to provide a mix of product, specialised delivery to site, and specific technical advice to assist easy installation.

A complete roof safety system was supplied, which improved accessibility and allowed safe access across a combination of flat, steel and fragile roofs at the site. The system comprised of 816 l/m of SAFETYWORKS FallGuard protective panels for installation on the fragile roof, 787 l/m of Flexideck walk ways and 325 l/m of Easyguard permanent free standing handrail. To conclude, 4 access ladders were also supplied to enable safe access onto the roof.

Due to the large scale of the project, SAFETYWORKS had to use an external hauler on this occasion to compliment their own lorries. The 272 FallGuard panels and 256 x 3m walk ways panels were loaded onto two 40 foot trailers, with the balance of ladders and Easyguard handrails delivered onto site using SAFETYWORKS own lorries over a period of two days.

As part of their service SAFETYWORKS & Solutions provided on site assistance to provide help with installation instruction and advice on the best means of installing the various products quickly, which helped their client to reduce their on site program.

Marco Norman, MD of SAFETYWORKS & Solutions said:
“This was our largest single ‘supply only’ order to date, and our team effort to produce and deliver the products to site, on schedule was superb. We pay particular attention to not only providing premium performance products, but also ensuring our customer support and technical advice is of the highest level – once again, this combination proved to be a winning formula’”.

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions provides a lesson in roof safety

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions Ltd, one of the UK’s leading ‘safety at height’ specialists has recently provided an upgraded roof safety and access system at Sussex University.

The University of Sussex was the first of the new wave of universities founded in the 1960s, receiving its Royal Charter in August 1961. Nearly 50 years on, the University has become a leading teaching and research institution. In the 2009 Times Higher Education University World Rankings, Sussex was ranked in the top five per cent of all universities worldwide.

As the University building is listed, it was essential that the specified products not only met the safety requirements, but that they were also in accordance to English Heritage guidelines. Working in conjunction with the University surveyors, SAFETYWORKS specified a range of products that would ensure safe movement around the roof enabling maintenance crews and external contractors secure access. 1500 l/m of Easyguard permanent freestanding handrails were installed to five areas. The system was galvanized to BS/EN 1461, and prior to installation was powder coated in Grey, thereby not only enhancing the system aesthetically, but also improving the longevity of the system. Easyguard’s base plates are fitted with bonded ribbed rubber mats inclusive of a foam infill, which reduces the heat transference to the roof membrane, therefore minimising degradation.

To complete, twenty Domoguards were fitted in conjunction with the handrails,
along with new Access Ladders, enabling safe access from inside buildings onto the roof areas for maintenance operatives.

“This installation proved particularly interesting as not only did we need to select the appropriate systems, but ensure that they were suitable for use on a listed building. The entire project was on a ‘rolling basis’, which we have now completed to the total satisfaction of our client”, said Marco Norman, Managing Director of SAFETYWORKS & Solutions.

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions Flexideck 2 Walkway System offer many advantages

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions supplied a comprehensive roof safety system to the Cambridgeshire location of ABB Limited, who is a leader in power and automation technologies that enable utility and industry customers to improve performance while lowering environmental impacts.

Recognising there is a need for people to access the vents and rainwater valleys on the roof, SAFETYWORKS & Solutions installed 370m of their Flexideck 2 walkway system, which not only helps to protect those going on to the roof, but also protects any fragile areas of the roof from foot traffic. SAFETYWORKS unique Flexideck 2 is a polyethylene with an enhanced GRP Plank walkway system, which offers increased anti-slip properties. Another design enhancement of Flexideck 2 is the use of high quality stainless steel fasteners, which naturally deliver an enhanced durability. The polyethylene bearers are produced from recycled plastic, and the entire system is lightweight, easily cleaned, and rot free, and can be manufactured to suit any profile. It is also non-penetrative, which means the roof’s integrity is not compromised during the installation process, and has an amazing life expectancy of over 40 years!

SAFETYWORKS also installed 47 FallGuard panels. FallGuard ensures that if a user falls sideways from the walkways, they will not pass through fragile roof sheets or roof lights.

To complete the system, 370m of Uniline 8mm Stainless Steel System was
installed to one side of the walkway allowing “hands free” protection throughout the length of the system. Uniline is CE marked and fully compliant with BS EN 795.

Commenting on the project, Marco Norman, Managing Director of SAFETYWORKS & Solutions said, “Our roof safety systems have been innovatively designed and manufactured to offer enhancements in terms of on-site performance and unsurpassed durability. Our clients know that with SAFETYWORKS, they are assured of market leading products, technical expertise, and an outstanding level of customer support”.

WARNING – Roof Safety Systems must not be used without testing!

As one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of roof access and safety systems, SAFETYWORKS & Solutions are also authorised to provide inspection and maintenance of systems and personnel protective equipment in accordance with the appropriate HSE legislation.

In order to ensure the continued safety of operatives and maintenance personnel who have to access roof areas, it is a legal requirement that the roof safety systems are inspected regularly and re-certified annually. The process ensures that all components are inspected for signs of damage/wear and tear, or corrosion, as well as testing relevant fall arrest and restraint products to confirm that they remain fully operational in terms of sustaining their designated load issued upon installation.

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions have offices in both Cambridgeshire and Shropshire, where their highly experienced personnel are fully trained to undertake inspections, testing, and re-certification, and if so required, can supply and install replacement systems.

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions take roof safety to another level

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions proved once again why they have become the UK’s preferred manufacturer and supplier of fall protection systems, access solutions and support services, when they supplied the ideal roof safety solution for a company, based near Redhill in Surrey.

After completing a comprehensive site survey to establish the requirements of the project, SAFETYWORKS & Solutions specified a number of improvements that would enable maintenance operatives to make safe and easy access across the roof. The installation programme had to accommodate the use of a contract crane lift, which was necessary to help manoeuvre the products onto the roof without adversely affecting the roof structures by over loading.

To commence, 650m of Flexideck walkway system was installed, which not only helps to safeguard those going onto the roof with its non slip surface, but also protects the roof from damage caused by foot traffic.

Produced from 99% recycled polyethylene and GRP, Flexideck is lightweight, easily cleaned, and rot free, with component parts unaffected by UV and temperature change. Flexideck can be manufactured to suit any profile. Besides standard roof fixings Flexideck is non-penetrative, which means the roof’s integrity is not compromised during the installation process. Widely favoured by numerous architects, contractors, specifiers and builders for installation on many construction environments, Flexideck was specifically chosen for this project as it offers assured high performance and durability. Designed to be suitable for use with both new build and retrofit installations, Flexideck also carries a 25-year guarantee for total peace of mind.

afety taken to another level. (BACK TO NEWS ITEMS)

Renowned as a company who are willing to ‘go the extra mile’ for their clients, SAFETYWORKS & Solutions levelled up the walk way around the roof’s perimeter on this particular project, by adjusting the bearers in order to ensure that the walkways were level. This process was completed pre delivery and did not require any additional time or expense – much to the delight of the client!

To conclude, Uniline 8mm Stainless Steel System was installed to the roof allowing “hands free” protection throughout the length of the system, where the operator is attached via a link device that glides over the brackets without the need to detach from the fall protection system. Uni 8 is manufactured from 316 stainless steel enhanced through electro polishing which results in the system components being suitable for heavy use in demanding environments.

As part of their comprehensive customer service, the products were then fully tested and duly certified for twelve months by SAFETYWORKS, a service that they will again provide to their client in twelve months time.

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions Easyguard gets a glowing report!

SAFETYWORKS & Solutions new western region office got off to a flying start by delivering an efficient installation programme and a range of roof safety systems for Abergele School in Wales, thereby providing maintenance operatives with safe access around, and onto the five roof areas within the school grounds.

It was essential that the school remained uninterrupted whilst the work was carried out, therefore a weekend installation was necessary. Utilising a special crane lift and their own fleet of lorries and experienced personnel, SAFETYWORKS & Solutions were able to complete the installation on time, and within budget, much to the delight of their client.

The project included the provision of 440m of Easyguard free standing handrails. It was particularly satisfying that Easyguard’s excellent reputation preceded on this project, as Conwy Council specifically requested the product as they were aware that not only does the system offer excellent performance and durability, but it has also been innovatively designed by SAFETYWORKS to offer flat base assemblies which therefore ensure a lower trip hazard than counterweighted systems. Easyguard is galvanised to BS/EN 1461 and has been proven to be highly durable. Installation is fast due to the easily assembled design, with the base plates fitted with bonded ribbed rubber mats, including an EPDM foam infill which helps to reduce heat transference to the roof membrane, which in turn assists to minimise membrane degradation.

GLOWING REPORT! (BACK TO NEWS ITEMS)

To complete the installation, two 4m caged Access Ladders and a 1m staircase were manufactured and installed by SAFETYWORKS & Solutions to allow safe access onto the different roof levels.

Commenting on the project, Marco Norman, Managing Director of SAFETYWORKS & Solutions said “We endeavour to design and manufacture a range of roof safety systems that exceed the usual expectations, and the fact that our client specifically requested Easyguard because of its flat base assembly design, is testimony to our thorough understanding of the roof safety industry’.
